Don't let the line discourage you. It was wrapped around the building and we were inside in less then ten minutes. It was well worth it for us. We checked out all the floors and sat down on the 3rd floor at the experimental bar. I would highly recommend if you're interested in it. I would probably suggest going earlier in the day just because they had run out of two of the food items we were interested in but there was plenty of other things to get.

A masterpiece of coffee and design!
This place is a feast for the senses and a definitive must-visit. The art of coffee is alive here—from the roasting smell to the very first taste. Its outstanding design seamlessly transforms a daily routine into an experience of pure pleasure. Every sip of their reserve brews and every bite of their artisanal croissants and cakes is perfection. Stop by and just enjoy every little detail!

If you’re visiting Chicago, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is more than just a coffee stop—it’s an experience.

We headed up to the Level 4 bar and tried the Seasonal Cocktail Flight along with the Old Fashioned. The cocktails were creative, well-balanced, and beautifully presented, but the standout for me was the Old Fashioned served over a giant Starbucks Reserve ice cube—simple, smooth, and incredibly satisfying.

The space itself is stunning. Watching the massive roasting equipment in action, seeing beans move through the copper tubes, and taking in the industrial-meets-modern design makes the entire place feel like a coffee lover’s playground. Even if you’re not a huge Starbucks fan, the atmosphere alone is worth the visit.

A great spot to unwind, people-watch, and enjoy a unique twist on coffee-inspired cocktails. Definitely one of the more memorable stops during our time in Chicago. ☕🥃✨

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago is far more than a coffee shop—it is a destination in its own right and one of Chicago’s most unique dining and coffee experiences. Even visitors who are not particularly devoted Starbucks fans will likely find themselves impressed by the scale, creativity, and immersive concept of this multi-level flagship location on iconic Michigan Avenue.

What makes the Roastery special is that it feels more like a coffee-themed attraction than a traditional café. The building showcases the roasting process, specialty brewing methods, exclusive beverages, fresh food offerings, cocktails, merchandise, and beautifully designed spaces spread across several floors. Every level reveals something different, making the experience enjoyable even for those simply exploring rather than dining.

The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, with most dishes and baked goods prepared fresh. Portions tend to be more European in size than typically American, making it a great place for lighter meals, snacks, coffee breaks, or desserts. The ambiance throughout is inviting, but the small rooftop terrace is particularly enjoyable, offering pleasant views overlooking the bustling energy of Michigan Avenue below.

The only downside is that popularity comes at a price. Service can be quite slow, not due to lack of effort but simply because of the enormous volume of visitors. Long ordering queues are common, and patience is often required.

Tip: Expect crowds at virtually any time of day, with lunch hours, weekends, holidays, and peak tourist seasons being especially busy. Allow extra time for ordering and finding seating. If possible, explore all floors before settling in, as each offers a slightly different atmosphere and menu selections. The rooftop seating is worth seeking out when weather permits. Whether you come for coffee, food, architecture, or simply curiosity, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery delivers a distinctive experience that is unlike any other Starbucks location and well worth a visit while exploring Chicago.

Beautiful on the outside, broken on the inside — three failures in one breakfast visit. I wanted to love this place. The Reserve Roastery on Michigan Avenue looks incredible — copper tanks, matte black ceramic mugs, pastries that belong in a bakery window. We settled in, ordered big, and prepared to enjoy it. What followed was one thing after another. My food came out with prosciutto I never ordered and can’t eat — religious reasons. The employee’s response was to pull the meat off and hand me the same plate. After explaining twice that pork contamination is still pork, I finally got a remake — accompanied by visible attitude, no apology. My coffee was ordered extra hot. It was lukewarm. At $7.50 a cup, that’s not acceptable. But the worst part? My wife ordered Eggs Purgatory and was told 15 minutes. We waited 35. Our coffees were cold by the time the food arrived. If they had just told us 35 minutes upfront, we would have planned around it. We might have ordered something else entirely. The false estimate didn’t just waste our time, it ruined the pacing of the whole meal. The almond croissants were excellent. The tiramisu latte was creative. But three real failures in one sitting — dietary error, wrong temperature, and a wildly inaccurate wait time — adds up fast. Two stars. The aesthetic earns them. The service doesn’t.

As a lifelong coffee aficionado and a dedicated Starbucks fan, walking into the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago—the largest Starbucks in the world—feels less like visiting a coffee shop and more like entering a grand cathedral dedicated to the bean. Located on Michigan Avenue, this five-story architectural masterpiece completely redefines the coffee experience, transforming it into an elite, multisensory journey.
The sheer scale of the space leaves you breathless. At its heart stands a magnificent, 56-foot bronze cask that spirally rockets upward, beautifully weaving through the floors like a living monument to industrial design. The atmosphere is vibrant, sophisticated, and buzzing with a shared passion for coffee culture.
Every floor reveals a meticulously curated dimension of taste. Watching the master roasters work with small-batch, rare Reserve beans right in front of you is utterly mesmerizing. From enjoying a flawless, velvety siphon-brewed coffee on the lower levels to indulging in exquisite, freshly baked artisanal pastries from Princi, the culinary depth is extraordinary. For a fan, the Arriviamo Cocktail Bar on the upper floors is a true revelation, masterfully blending premium spirits with mixology-grade cold brews.
The entire operation runs with flawless precision. Despite the high-energy crowds, the partners are remarkably polite, organized, and enthusiastically knowledgeable, treating coffee with the dignity of a fine art. This Roastery is not just a store; it is a five-star metropolitan triumph and an absolute bucket-list pilgrimage for any true coffee lover.
